Japan: Tokyo’s governor announced that the city will make high school tuition free of charge for all students, regardless of family income.
Under the current system even public high schools charge tuition, but that’s going to be ending soon in the nation’s largest city.
The policy comes as an urgent effort to provide support to child-raising households.

Georgia Elects Its First Asian American Mayor

Georgia: John Park was officially elected mayor of Brookhaven, Georgia, becoming the state’s first Asian American mayor.
The Korean American city council member received 59% of the vote (3,564 votes), winning the runoff against Lauren Kiefer.
Park graduated from Emory University and immigrated to Alabama from South Korea when he was six years old.
